Merchant Account Provider
A financial institution or bank, that provides a financial account to a merchant for the purpose of collecting proceeds from consumer bank account or credit card payment transactions.
Merchant Account
An account setup through a financial institution that allows a merchant to accept credit cards for payment directly on his or her site. In addition, a merchant account allows a merchant collect funds and to then have those funds placed directly into their checking account.
Payment Gateway
A system of technologies and processes that allows communications between networks (i.e., the Credit Card Interchange and the ACH Network). Payment gateways also provide merchants with transaction management, reporting and billing services.
